Songs Of Serenity: Part 2

Continuing from where I left in the last post, let me write about some more melodious songs that I love to listen over and over and over.

Yun Hua (Striker): Again it's a Vishal Bhardwaj's composition, penned by Gulzar. Vishal has sung this song himself and his voice suits this song and it's mood. After a small prelude beats, the song starts with the words "Aur phir yun hua...." and from that moment it seems like a friend is continuing his story after the last pause. How he woke up from a dream and then couldn't sleep for rest of the night. Gulzar has again woven beautiful words: "Chaand ki wo dali ghul gayi" for he saw the moon fading away slowly & slowly and when he tried remembering the dream he couldn't ("khwab ki woh ladi khul gayi") and how it seemed like being awake for a very very long time. It's quite clear that this song is written and composed to be used as a background score and to that effect Vishal's voice promises the required anonymity and non-distraction. Enjoy the song here:

Ek Wo Din Bhi Thhe (Chachi 420): One more from Vishal Bhardwaj, Gulzar and Rekha Bhardwaj. The song is beautiful and is very positive yet simple. Normally nostalgic songs become very depressing but this one promises about hope and the silver lining in the dark clouds but without going overboard with optimism. It seems to talk about a bigger horizon of time when things and people are forgotten and forgiven eventually. Lovely composition, great music, very nicely sung. Enjoy the music here:

Barfaan (The Blue Umbrella): Again, composed  by Vishal Bhardwaj and penned by Gulzar, sung by Sukhwinder and Vishal Bhardwaj, this is a slow, melodious and haunting track which definitely has the power to transpose one to the hills of Himalayas with Ruskin Bond. The words again are majestically woven to describe the onset of winters in the mounts, for e.g. when Gulzar describes how the days have suddenly become short like clothes of a growing child. The use of bass guitar through out the song gives the song a unique beat. Here's the song:

Rooth Ke Humse Kahi (Jo jeeta wohi sikandar): Written by Majrooh Sultanpuri, music composed by Jatin-Lalit and sung by Jatin himself. I think this is one of the most under-rated songs, probably due to the other popular songs in the same movie like "Pehla nasha" etc. The songs lyrics, music and choreography beautifully captures the not-so-often expressed love and camaraderie of brothers or in general siblings. I love this song and always miss my brother and sister while listening it. It revives the joys and troubles of growing up together and reminds me of the best time of mine and every one's life - childhood. Here's the song:

Iktaara (Wake Up Sid): This charming song is the product of musical composition of Amit Trivedi, with words of Javed Akhtar and voices of Kavita Seth and Amitabh Bhattacharya. It is one of those songs for which it is impossible to guess whether music was created first or lyrics because the music and lyrics accommodate each other so well. After the guitar prelude, the husky voice of Kavita immediately grips you. The chorus and Bhattacharya's following up of words after Kavita further affirms the status of primary singer. Javed Akhtar has worked hard to write lyrics indicating the emotional turmoil of a lovestruck and has been quite successful in conveying the effect. We can see some new poetry from Javed this time for e.g. when he says the path of real life is impeded due to the continuous drizzle of dreams etc. The overall musical score is very melodious, and I specially love a small piece about 1 minute before the end where there is beautiful mix of piano and violin followed by Kavita's vocal to end the song. Here's the song:

Tumne Na Humse Kuch Kaha Tha (Pyar mein kabhi kabhi): If you ask me which is my most favorite song out of the above then I would say this one. This is sung by Mahalakshmi, music is composed by Vishal Dadlani and penned by Raj Kaushal. The music is awesome, the lyrics touch the heart and the singing is superb. I don't know how to describe a lot of things I feel while listening to it. Better listen and see if it works for you too! Here's the song:

Well, that's it for this post. There are many many other songs that I would like to put here, but may be some other time, some other post. Meanwhile, you can tell me about your favorites among the above and others that you like most in the comments section. Cheers!
